Veteran actor, James Avery, “Uncle Phil” from 1990’s sitcom, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air dead at age 68.

According to CNN, Avery died December 31, 2013 in Los Angles due to complications resulting from open heart surgery. Avery played Wil Smith’s character’s straight-forward, Uncle Phil in the NBC sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Although James Avery played many other roles on TV and in film, the dignity, stand-up guy and straight forward attitude he brought to his Uncle Phil role on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has perhaps endeared him to the hearts of millions.  He will be missed.  My prayers and condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
