The inspiring movie was produced by Champlin Media with Adam Gowland, Jordana Aarons and Cassandra Keenan serving as producers. Ni’Cola Mitchell executive produced on Giving Hope: The NiCola Mitchell Story along with Barbara Fisher, Tom Berry, Suzanne Chapman and Ni’Cola Mitchell. The script was written by Adam Rockoff while Alpha Nicky directed.

The made for TV movie is inspired by the real life story of Ni’Cola Mitchell, best-selling author, publisher, motivational speaker and founder of Girls Who Brunch, a non-profit that impacts the lives of at-risk young girls. A survivor of abuse, cancer and a difficult childhood, Mitchell dedicated her life to uplifting, empowering, and inspiring girls through the nonprofit she founded, Girls Who Brunch. These youth-driven events are designed to make young women feel seen and empowered. “I read the story several times and I had to put it down to take a breath, because it’s very emotionally charged…there’s so much to Dr. Ni’Cola’s story that I can relate to, mentorship…the way she turned her pain into a real life purpose, I connected to that,” said Ali.

As portrayed in the movie, Mitchell put her own money into the events. And with the support of her sister Nene played by Nadine Whiteman Roden and daughters Diamond (Kudakwashe Rutendo) and Destani (Mikalah Reid-Beckette), she pours everything she has into the organization, and gathers volunteers, coaches and community leaders to help bring the successful events to life.

After being named A Woman of Worth by L’Oréal, her success started to grow, and sponsorship opportunities began to flow. Girls Who Brunch then expanded nationally reaching thousands of girls in the process.
