Gospel recording artist Marvin Sapp’s long-awaited biopic, Never Would Have Made it: The Marvin Sapp Story premieres Sunday, August 19, at 9p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on TV One.

Starring Chaz Lamar Shepherd, Ambre Anderson, Stormy Merriweather, Jayden Griffin and Zoe Greene, the made for TV movie tells the story of this Michigan born and bred Bishop’s strict upbringing, early beginnings in the church, teenage battle with alcoholism, becoming a member of iconic gospel group Commissioned, rise to stardom in the gospel industry as a soloist, growth in ministry, marriage to the love of his life the late Dr. Malinda Prince Sapp, and his philanthropic contributions to his community.

Executive produced by Phil Thornton, Marvin Sapp, Eric Tomosunas, James Seppelfrick and Keith Neal, Never Would Have Made It is directed by Russ Parr and produced exclusively for TV One by Swirl Films.

The film is titled after Marvin Sapp’s 2007 iconic song that made his name a household name and resonated with people across cultures, denominations, musical genres and generations.

In addition to the pastor, author and radio host celebrating the premiere of his biopic, there was one more reason for his cup to be overflowing with joy. He was presented with the Billionaire Award from streaming giant Pandora for receiving more than a billion streams of his music on the platform at the National Museum of African American Music. Plus, his classic, “Never Would Have Made It” was re-released this week, 16 years after it originally touched hearts around the world. Now a new generation will feel the passion of Sapp’s timeless inspirational hit.

The movie was presented at special screenings in Atlanta (star studded premiere at Regal Station), Sapp’s home state of Michigan, the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, at the church he currently pastors, The Chosen Vessel Cathedral in Fort Worth, Texas, and in Nashville at the National Museum of African American Music.

Never Would Have Made It: The Marvin Sapp Story is a true story about the joys and pains of a servant of the Lord who has survived some insurmountable odds, and yet he stands in testimony to share through song, testimony and now a movie his deepest hurts and how God can bring you through.
