Straight Outta Compton In Theaters August 14

Straight Outta ComptonStraight Outta Compton, the story of rap group N.W.A. arrives in theaters August 14, 2105. The film centers on the lives and music of five aspiring rappers who became known as N.W.A. In the late 1980’s, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella, Ice Cube and MC Ren were residents of arguably one of the most dangerous communities in America, Compton, CA. The predominately African American city in Los Angels County was plagued with gang violence, drugs and crime. To some of the residents it was a city forgotten and without hope, and many did not trust the police or the establishment.

N.W.A. decided to put their frustrations about their life and city into their talent, lyrics and beats to a style of music called gangsta rap music. F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job) directed this story of rappers rising from the ashes of a troubled community filled with desperation and little hope who caused a revolution in the music business and created a new genre noted as a game changer to this day.

Straight Outta Compton stars Ice Cube’s real life son, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Neil Brown, Jr., Aldis Hodge and veteran actor Paul Giamatti.

The drama was produced by Ice Cube, Tomica Woods-Wright, Matt Alvarez, F. Gary Gray, Scott Bernstein and Dr. Dre.

Will Packer (The Wedding Ringer, Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Takers) along with David Engel, Adam Merims, Bill Straus, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni served as executive producers.

Movie-goers who love rap music, a good story of overcoming and are fans of N.W.A. will enjoy Straight Outta Compton.
